Enterprise

Moving into social enterprise will mean significant change for Edinburgh Cyrenians.

What is a Social Enterprise?

Social enterprises are trading businesses which exist to meet a social purpose. The aim being that your enterprise fulfils a social purpose such as creating jobs and training for people who find mainstream employment difficult and that it generates an income to reinvest.

After sifting through various business ideas and identifying those with most potential, the team are concentrating their efforts for the time being on:

Cyrenians Farm
Sales and marketing of our wonderful Cyrenians Farm produce help us to increase our commercial income. Secondary produce (such as jams, honey, chutney) are being produced and sold locally and we also offer team challenges ideal for businesses and local groups. Please visit the Farm website  for further details.

Good Food
Moving into commercial markets for cookery classes, workshops, study tours and conferences on healthy and independent living. Early planning around catering businesses (soups, smoothies and possibly a Cyrenians restaurant).

"What we've enjoyed is learning not only what a social enterprise is, but using that to turn dreams in our heads into plans that will work and move forward. Our first enterprise, Cooking at Home is now off and running!"
Sam and Jeanie, Good Food Team
