Residential Communities
Edinburgh Cyrenians run two therapeutic communities where young adults live and work together - the City and the Farm.
In these communities, young people feel at home, and are able to establish a sense of belonging. This stability encourages them to overcome past difficulties and move forward with fresh confidence, increased self esteem, and a healthier view of themselves and
their future.
Young people overcoming homelessness live alongside volunteers of a similar age, who act as peer-mentors and role models.
Residential Volunteering
Our Residential Volunteers live and work as part of a Community providing a secure, homely environment that helps the young people we work with to enjoy life. Activities include cooking, going out, gardening, decorating, playing games, cleaning, working out problems and celebrating achievement.
We are looking for volunteers for our two communities - one is in central Edinburgh, the other is a small organic farm about 10 miles outside the city. Come to live and work with us for 6 months; in return you'll receive full board and lodging, a weekly personal allowance, induction training and support.
Many people use their new skills to start a career in the helping professions and others simply come to enjoy the experience. The right attitude and a commitment to social justice are more important than knowledge or experience.
