People With Potential

I wanted to drop you an e-mail just to express an acknowledgement and thanks of the work that all at Cyrenians are putting into our service user's development and also that of the unit.

The service that you are currently offering is proving invaluable to both our service users and also the staff team. As we are a small unit, the prospect of Matthew House being able to offer this kind of service independently would be impossible.

I am particularly delighted that the two organisations are continuing to build up an excellent working partnership which ultimately is providing the young men with a really positive experience.

I take great encouragement of the change that I see in our particular service user's and this has been greatly effected by the work that you continue to do at Cyrenians.

I am confident that our organisations will continue to develop our partnership together and through this provide an excellent outlet for the young people we encounter.

I would also take this opportunity to wish you all the best for your trip to Skye and hope all have a great time.

Health Improvement Services - Fareshare

I am writing to say Thank You for all the food you provided for the women & girls staying in the Cranston Street Hostel.

I spent 3 months there earlier in the year and found hostel living pretty stressful. The only good thing about it was the regular deliveries of delicious food from M&S! We all looked forward to it and delivery days had a bit of a festive air.

Anyway, I imagine there is a lot of work involved in uplifting and delivering and I just wanted to let you know it was much appreciated. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Health Improvement Services - Fareshare

I have been using Edinburgh Cyrenians' FareShare project for just over eighteen months as the main supplier of food for the soup kitchens and drop-ins that I run in Edinburgh's Old Town. I feed around forty men and women each day, mainly with the high quality, varied food supplied by Cyrenians. They contribute around fifty percent of all of the food distributed at Greyfriars Kirkhouse, by The Grassmarket Mission and other organisations that run soup kitchens from those premises.

The ethos behind the Grassmarket Mission is to get alongside homeless and marginalised people, building relationships with them and assisting them in getting back on their feet. As well as free food, we give advice, both practical and spiritual and clothes.

Eating together helps the men and women bond, it gives them reason to come in and gives the staff and volunteers the opportunity to engage them in conversation. Food is an essential part of social interaction and it facilitates that interaction both with the guests themselves and between the guests and the volunteers. I could not achieve what I do without food and I could not provide the variety and quality of food that I do without the help of the Edinburgh Cyrenians.

Their support is vital to my work in breaking down barriers with homeless people and breaking down the cycle of homeless and addiction that many of them find themselves in. They do a fantastic job in improving the diet of homeless people and provide a vital support to agencies like my own. I cannot thank them enough.
