LEARNING AND WORK

Cyrenians Learning and Work project works with unemployed people in Craigmillar and Portobello. We provide support and practical assistance to help our customers into work, training and education.

Our experienced coaches provide individual support on:
• Finding a job
• Building a CV
• Filling in job application forms
• Preparing for interviews
• Advice on training and education opportunities
• Training workshops

As well as working with individuals, we are also working with local employers to develop learning programmes which will provide training specifically geared towards the needs of employers in the area; filling real vacancies.

We run a Work Club too. Come along to our offices in The Hays Business Centre in Craigmillar any Tuesday between 9.30 and 11.30 for information and advice on current jobs.

You can also access our services from Portobello Library every Thursday between 2.00 - 4.00pm and Magdalene Communtiy Centre on Fridays 10.00am - 12.00pm

Our office hosts representatives from Job Centre Plus on a Wednesday morning where people can get "Better off in Work" calculations and advice.
SDS careers and personal advisors are available to work with younger clients on a Wednesday afternoon; and the Edinburgh Volunteer Centre are based here on Mondays and Thursdays each week.

The team are keen to ensure that the ethos and values of the Cyrenian organisation are maintained in this project and to this end can refer clients to other parts of the Cyrenians for specialist support if required. They are also building good relationships with other specialist providers in the community who can provide assistance to people to help them get into employment.
